Meet the Inspiring WAFCON Debutant Playing Without Sponsors: Dineo Magagula’s Story

From the dusty streets of Kgaphamadi in Limpopo to the bright lights of the 2024 WAFCON stage, Dineo Magagula is the definition of resilience. Born and raised in a small village where football is more than just a sport—it’s a way out—Dineo’s journey began with playing barefoot with boys after school. At the time, she didn’t have gloves, boots, or even proper gear—but what she did have was passion.

“I used to play with my cousins and the local boys’ teams. I fell in love with soccer because it was the one thing that made me feel alive,” she says.

Despite the many challenges, including financial constraints that made it almost impossible to afford proper goalkeeping equipment, Dineo never stopped dreaming. Her mother, her biggest supporter, made sacrifices to help her buy gear whenever she could, sometimes saving for months just to afford a single pair of gloves.

“I would buy whatever gloves I could afford. Sometimes I had to play with worn-out ones, hoping they wouldn’t tear mid-game. But even then, I kept going.” Dineo Magagula Support

Proudly donning the green and gold jersey as a goalkeeper for TS Galaxy Queens and a recent national team call-up to WAFCON, Dineo is finally living her dream—but the struggle is far from over.

“Being selected for the national team felt like a dream come true, but it also reminded me of how hard this journey has been. I still don’t have consistent access to quality gloves or soccer boots, and that affects my confidence and performance.”

As someone who’s relied on RG and Adidas gloves whenever she could get her hands on them, Dineo knows the power of quality gear. Not only do the right gloves help improve her performance, but they also give her confidence—the mental edge every goalkeeper needs to succeed.

“With six gloves a year at minimum, I could train and play without fear. I wouldn’t have to stress about saving every cent to replace torn gloves or worn-out boots. A sponsor would truly change my life.”

Dineo also holds a Diploma in Transportation Management, proving her commitment to personal growth off the field. But football remains her greatest love—and now, she wants to pay it forward.

“I want to use my platform to inspire and equip young girls back home who also want to be goalkeepers. I want to be the mentor I never had. With the right backing, I believe I can do more than just play—I can give hope.” Banyana Banyana Squad

Her dream? To sign with a global glove or football gear brand, play internationally, and one day launch a foundation that provides gloves and boots to underprivileged goalkeepers in South Africa.

“To any brand out there—invest in me, and you’re investing in a story of hope, strength, and transformation. Help me become the change I wish to see in this sport.”
