With the stakes high and the competition getting fierce with each game, I had the privilege of sitting down with the captain of TUKS Women’s football squad, Khutso Pila to glean insights into their stellar performance and unwavering spirit.

When asked about the team's mindset concerning their deadlock with Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, the captain exuded confidence and said:As a Team we are happy to be in the position that we are at, it shows that the things that we are trying to do are working for us. We just need to continue to work hard and take each game as it comes without putting pressure on ourselves.”

In their first seven games of the new season, TUKS are unbeaten in their last six consecutive encounters, their only loss being 2-0 in their opening fixture against Durban Ladies.

In the 2023 season, the team had registered only two victories, one draw and four defeats in the same number of games they’ve played so far this season (7). Looking into the team's secret to consistency, I inquired about the captain's role in inspiring her teammates.

“In football Communication is the key to everything and with that being said, I try to encourage each and every player to say if the Coach selected you to be part of the team that means you are good enough and capable to make sure that the team fulfils their mission and goals. Positive energy and encouraging each other is what keeps us going.” Revealed Pila.

Beyond the confines of the football field, the captain shed light on the team's bonding sessions, emphasising the importance of camaraderie beyond game days,We are a team that loves to play board games, anything that has to do with exercising our brains.”
