Fostering inclusion by empowering Women in Sports: Sasol's Commitment on International Women's Day

International Women's Day is a global celebration of the achievements and contributions of women in various fields. It serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for gender equality and the importance of recognising and empowering women. In commemorating this significant day, Sasol continues to pave the way in the promotion of gender diversity and inclusivity, particularly in the field of sports.

Retaining and Developing Talent:

Sasol is committed to retaining and developing talent through various initiatives, with a particular focus on women's participation in sports. One of the prominent ways through which Sasol fosters talent is the Sasol League which for the past 15 years has been South Africa’s semi-professional women’s football league with a purpose to grow and develop women's football in all of South Africa’s nine provinces.

The league which sees over 4000 women participate annually, not only promotes the growth of women's football but also catalyzes the creation of role models and inspires the next generation of female athletes. By investing in grassroots football and nurturing talent from an early age, Sasol contributes to the overall development of women in sport.

Banyana Banyana - A Source of Inspiration:

Sasol's commitment to women's sports extends beyond provincial leagues and onto the national stage. Having been a committed sponsor of Banyana Banyana, the South African Senior Women's Football Team for 15 years; Sasol's sponsorship has played a pivotal role in the team's success, providing crucial resources and opportunities for players to compete on the international stage.

By supporting Banyana Banyana, Sasol not only showcases its commitment to women's football but also acts as a catalyst for breaking gender stereotypes in sports. The team has become a source of inspiration for aspiring female athletes, demonstrating that with dedication, skill, and support, women can excel in traditionally male-dominated fields.

Wheelchair Basketball: Expanding Opportunities:

Sasol is intentional about inclusivity and it goes beyond mainstream sports. The company actively supports wheelchair basketball, providing opportunities for women with disabilities to engage in sports at a competitive level. Through its involvement in wheelchair basketball, Sasol continues to break down barriers in partnernship with Wheelchair Basketball South Africa, aiming for a more inclusive sporting environment.

By supporting wheelchair basketball, Sasol sends a powerful message that everyone, regardless of physical abilities, deserves the opportunity to participate and excel at the highest level in sport. This aligns with the broader goals of International Women's Day, emphasising the importance of equal opportunities for all women, regardless of their background or abilities.

As we celebrate International Women's Day, Sasol stands out as a company dedicated to fostering gender diversity and inclusivity in sports. Through initiatives like the Sasol League, support for Banyana Banyana, and involvement in wheelchair basketball, Sasol not only retains and develops talent but also inspires and releases women to pursue their passion. By championing these causes, Sasol contributes to the broader movement towards gender equality and empowerment, making a positive impact on the lives of women both on and off the field.
